Step into Christmas at Holkham

Explore the magnificent rooms of Holkham Hall dressed in their Christmas finery, with beautiful decorations, twinkling lights and festive displays. Holkham also hosts its Christmas Market, with local producers, seasonal food and gifts- perfect for finding something a little different. The 2026 market takes place from 11–13 December, with candlelight visits on selected dates. Discover Christmas at Holkham.
Be dazzled by the Thursford Christmas Spectacular

Explore the Thursford Christmas Spectacular.
Enjoy a bracing winter beach walk
Christmas isn't all about busy events. Some of our favourite moments are the simple ones: pulling on your boots, heading to the coast and enjoying the fresh sea air. Old Hunstanton, Holme-next-the-Sea and Holkham Beach are wonderful places for a winter walk, with wide-open skies and room to stretch your legs. Bring the dogs along, then return to the cottage for a hot drink and a cosy evening in.
Christmas shopping in Holt
If you love finding thoughtful gifts rather than browsing the same high-street shops, make time for Holt. This charming Georgian market town is full of independent shops, homeware stores, galleries and little places to stop for coffee. It's a lovely place to spend a winter afternoon picking up Christmas presents and enjoying a slower pace. The town's Sunday market also has selected dates through December, including 6 December 2026, so check ahead if you'd like to visit on market day.
Find local treats at Creake Abbey and Dalegate Market
For a taste of local Norfolk, visit the shops at Creake Abbey or Dalegate Market at Burnham Deepdale. They're lovely places to browse independent businesses, discover local food and pick up something a little different for Christmas. Creake Abbey's farmers' market is scheduled for Saturday 5 December 2026, with local produce and artisan stalls. It's a lovely excuse to shop locally and bring a few Norfolk treats back to the cottage.
Follow a winter light trail
For a little extra Christmas sparkle, look out for the seasonal light trails taking place around Norfolk. The Luminate Winter Light Trail at nearby Sandringham is listed for 21 November to 24 December 2026 , offering an atmospheric evening out among illuminated displays in the royal parkland. Wrap up warm, enjoy the lights and then look forward to returning to your own cosy, Christmas-decorated cottage. They also have the Sandringham Christmas Craft and Food Fair running from 13th-15th december
Enjoy the smaller festive moments at Holkham
Alongside its famous Christmas market and candlelight experiences, Holkham has more intimate festive events planned for December, including carol singing in the courtyard on 3 December, Christmas craft workshops on selected dates and Festive Family Days on 19–20 December. These smaller events are a lovely way to enjoy the season and discover something beyond the main attractions.
Other little festive moments around North Norfolk
Christmas in North Norfolk isn't just about the big shows and grand halls. Sometimes it's the little things that make a December stay feel special: finding a thoughtful gift, making a decoration to take home or wandering around a village as the Christmas lights come on.
Get creative with a Christmas decoration
If you fancy doing something a little different, keep an eye out for festive glass-making workshops at Langham Glass, just outside Fakenham. Watch the glassmakers at work and discover the craft behind those beautiful decorations that come out year after year. For another creative option, look for Christmas fused-glass workshops in nearby Blakeney, where you can make your own festive tree or decorations to treasure or give as a gift. Workshops need booking in advance, so check the dates before you visit.
Find something special at Dalegate Market
For Christmas shopping with a local feel, head to Dalegate Market at Burnham Deepdale. Its festive pop-up shops bring together independent makers, artisans and local producers, making it a lovely place to find gifts that are a little different from the usual high-street offerings. You might even discover a few Norfolk treats to bring back to Flock Cottage for a cosy evening in.
Enjoy the Christmas lights in Hunstanton
If you're staying towards the end of November, Hunstanton's Christmas lights switch-on is a lovely way to begin the festive season. The 2026 event is listed for Sunday 29 November, with festive stalls, live music and a visit from Santa. It's a cheerful local celebration and a lovely excuse to enjoy the town before heading back to the cottage.
Make a festive afternoon of Burnham Market
Burnham Market is always lovely for a browse, with independent boutiques, galleries and places to stop for a coffee. Around the festive season, its village atmosphere feels especially inviting. Pair a little Christmas shopping with a wander around the village and perhaps a warming drink before heading back to Ringstead. If you're visiting at the end of November, look out for local Christmas light-switch-on celebrations and check current event listings before travelling.
Spend a December day in Wells-next-the-Sea
Wells is worth a visit at any time of year, but December brings extra festive charm. On Saturday 12 December 2026, Wells Christmas Tide is set to bring the town together with festive markets, entertainment, Santa's arrival by boat and a lantern parade. It's a lovely opportunity to explore the harbour town, browse the shops and enjoy a little Christmas magic by the coast.
